I'd like to focus on immersive systems assuming at least stereoscopic view and tracking. For a classification I've put together a number of criteria for discussion, like: - what is the area of application (conceptual or elaborative modeling, sketching, etc.)? - what is the average size of models? - is the modeler fixed to a certain visualization system like HMD, Cave or Workbench? - what is the number of input options (one- or two-handed interaction, gestures, required number of buttons, speech recognition)? - what sort of input devices is used, providing how many DOF? - is force feedback provided? - which geometrical representation is used (discrete or continuous, surface-, volume-, hybrid-representation)? - direct or indirect generation and modification of geometry? - number of functions for generation and modification of geometry? - which interaction metaphors are used? - which menue repräsentation is used? - underlying VE-software system? Is this it? And who will be willing to fill that in for her system ;-) I'd be glad to share ideas... jo
